Oxfam Novib is a world-wide development organisation that mobilises the power of people against poverty. Around the globe, they work to find practical, innovative ways for people to lift themselves out of poverty and thrive.

A key new seafood-facing programme is: Sustainable and equitable shrimp production and value chain development in Vietnam (SuSV). Oxfam aims to contribute to sustainable economic prosperity and poverty reduction in Vietnam through improving social and environmental impacts of shrimp production and processing. The projects support SMEs and their efforts to make seafood production socially and environmentally sustainable. Working with local government, SMEs and subsidiaries of larger seafood companies, the aim is to support small scale producers and rural communities to form cooperatives; encourage consumers to support front-runners in improving policies and practices; and lobby certification schemes to consider more issues of social as well as environmental responsibility. To run from March 2016 to February 2020.

Significance for seafood businesses:

Not seafood-specific, but do work in this sector. Useful for awareness as an organisation working to support the industry, and improve governance, safety and welfare within the global seafood industry.
