In 2015, world leaders adopted the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals: 17 interrelated goals and 169 associated targets to guide global development. In Target 8.7 leaders committed to: ‘take immediate and effective measures to eradicate forced labour, end modern slavery and human trafficking and secure the prohibition and elimination of the worst forms of child labour, including recruitment and use of child soldiers, and by 2025 end child labour in all its forms’. Target 8.7 is a call for us to work together to end these horrific practices once and for all. Alliance 8.7 was created to help achieve this ambitious undertaking and coordinate with those working on the many interrelated Sustainable Development Goals. The Alliance will focus on accelerating timelines, conducting research and sharing knowledge, driving innovation, and increasing and leveraging resources.
Significance for seafood businesses:
Not seafood-specific. This is driving positive change and provides opportunities to share knowledge and insight, learn from others, build knowledge and share best practice.
