Calculating the Sweep Angle and Wing End Spread of a Single Demersal Trawl
- Sweep angle, bridle angle, trawl gear, gear spread, gear opening, gear parameters
Knowing the opening of their trawl gear in relation to the length of sweeps etc is critical for any trawl skipper.
This calculation gives and easy way for a skipper to estimate the sweep angle and wing end spread of his gear by entering the measured door spread, sweep length and trawl dimensions in the blue boxes. This is an automated version of the calculations included in fact sheet 'Calculating Sweep Angle and Wing End Spread of a Single Demersal Trawl'.
For advice on methods measuring door spread with different towing arrangements, please read 'Calculating the Spread of Trawl Doors' fact sheet.
