We’re returning to the Japan International Seafood & Technology Expo (JISTE) in August. Learn about the event and how your business can be involved.

In partnership with Seafood Scotland, we are hosting a UK pavilion in Tokyo. The UK and Seafood from Scotland pavilions will be co-located creating a strong UK presence at the show for a second consecutive year.

Did you know? At JISTE 2023, the pavilion recorded over 400 visitors! Buyers were mainly from Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea amongst many other countries – proving to be a key expo for those interested in Asian markets.

Did you also know? Last year, over 800 samples of UK seafood were served to the show’s audience. Our experienced local chef showcased some of the key species for Asian markets, including mackerel, salmon, langoustine, whelks, brown crab, and lobster. We also learned that the Japanese market is very curious about UK-caught bluefin tuna!

But what about the business opportunities? Feedback from UK companies who attended this expo in 2023 indicated very significant trade wins, and expectations of much more to come.

About the Japan International Seafood & Technology Expo

Japan International Seafood & Technology Expo is one of the primary seafood trade exhibitions in Asia, attracting seafood companies and buyers from across Asia and further afield. Held at Tokyo Big Sight between 21-23 August, it will be the 26th edition of the Expo and expected to be the busiest yet.

It is anticipated that this event will attract more than 30,000 visitors over the three days. Exhibitor numbers are also expected to increase in 2024, with over 800 exhibiting companies from over 25 countries.

About the pavilion

Our 84sqm co-located pavilion will be in Hall 6 stand R-57, establishing a prominent UK presence at this valuable international show.

We will be hosting an open communal lounge for attending UK companies to hold meetings, as well as a live chef kitchen and an interpreter service. We are also excited to be able to offer a limited number of branded podiums to UK seafood exporters free of charge.

Representatives from Seafish and Seafood Scotland will be on hand to provide insight and advice to support your trade plans.

Opportunities for UK seafood businesses

Attending companies can apply for a free branded podium on the pavilion. These free-standing podiums act as a reception desk and are an ideal signpost and focal point for your business. Pods will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Businesses can take advantage of free branded pods, like those pictured above.

The communal meeting facility on the UK pavilion at the exhibition provides the perfect venue for conducting business meetings. UK Government trade specialists will also be on hand to help you to understand the Japanese market and to help forge those all-important connections, and interpreters will be available to facilitate discussions.

UK seafood businesses also have the chance to showcase products during JISTE 2024. We’d love to hear from businesses interested in donating samples of their seafood products to the UK pavilion’s live kitchen.

UK registered seafood export companies can apply for a branded podium or express an interest in supplying product via the form in the section below.
