Originally published in 1989 as an open learning module, this technical guide to the identification of fish and shellfish is now only available as a pdf file online. In 2008 Seafish developed and released a DVD guide to seafood identification. Both the pdf and the DVD complement the information on seafood species available on the Seafood Training Academy website (www.seafoodacademy.org) in the guide to seafood species gallery of the website. Fisheries Control Regulations: Traceability and consumer information requirements
European fisheries control measures were reviewed and consolidated under Commission Regulation 01224/2009 with further implementing measures provided under Regulation 404/2011. This applies minimum labelling and information requirements throughout the supply chain both up to retail and to the consumer. It does not apply to fishery products imported under IUU regulations nor those that fall under the CN16 customs tariff heading. This document provides guidance on the application of these requirements within the seafood sector. -

The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations will require some large fish business to maintain detailed records of packaging handled and to be responsible for the recovery and recycling of some packaging waste. Seafood-waste disposal at sea – a scientific review
Due to the recent tightening of regulations surrounding the disposal of seafood processing waste to landfill, fish and shellfish processors are now facing a rise in the cost and difficulty of waste disposal. This is of particular concern in remote areas where alternative uses (e.g. fishmeal) are neither accessible nor economically viable and therefore, cost effective and environmentally-sound solutions to the disposal of this waste need to be found. This report examines the potential for disposal at sea, together with the likely impacts and advice on the selection of appropriate sites for disposal. -
