Tariffs on seafood imported into the EU
This information document gives an explanation of tariffs and tariff regimes in force in Europe. It gives some backround into the preferential tariff regimes such as the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP), and how tariffs are affected by trade arrangements between the EU and other countries. It gives some examples of tariff-free or low-tariff quotas, including autonomous tariff quotas (ATQs). This document is an update to the March 2017 document on seafood tariffs. -
A Business Study of the N. Ireland Fish Industry
This study, carried out in 1982/83, describes the fisheries of the County Down coast centred on the three ports of Kilkeel, Portagovie and Ardglass. The costs and earnings of fishing vessels are given and the report points out that the catching capacity of the Northern Ireland fleet is in excess of the resources available to it and alternative opportunities must be sought. Included are assessments of the Northern Ireland consumer market. This report has been produced from a scanned original and may therefore contain some formatting and other inaccuracies. In cases where this affects the technical content, a paper copy of the original report can still be obtained from Seafish. -
Review of polyphosphates as additives and testing methods for them in scallops and prawns
Seafish commissioned Campden BRI to conduct a desk-based literature review to provide information on the use of polyphosphates in seafood products, notably scallops and prawns. This report provides background information on polyphosphates including what they are, their presence, composition, how they interact with the product, how they break down over time and naturally occurring levels. A review of testing methodologies is also included. -
An assessment of ethical issues impacting on the UK seafood supply chain: Literature review
Seafish commissioned a study to assess the ethical issues impacting on seafood species landed into, and imported to the UK. This literature review is one of the key outputs. This addresses; the context and challenges; the scope of analysis, in applying ethical concepts and standards to the seafood industry; a review of relevant published reports; a review of media reports, websites and advocacy campaigns; an initial assessment of government, industry and multi-stakeholder initiatives; and an overall assessment and gap analysis. -
