B40_Abalone Feed Requirements
Abalone naturally eat seaweed of which some less abundant species are preferred. In culture situations where seaweed sources are considered it will be necessary to demonstrate that operations are sustainable to ensure no significant impact on the marine ecosystem. Furthermore, when abalone culture is proposed in Special Areas of Conservation (SAC’s) a higher level of ‘Appropriate Assessment’ will be required. This report is a guidance document to help address some of these issues and present options for individual scheme consideration. -

Seafood servings continue to grow in foodservice despite a challenging economic and political climate, breaking the 1bn mark again in 2017. Quick service restaurants continue to dominate the foodservice market, whilst fried fish remains the most popular type of seafood eaten out of home. Seafood featured highly in new starters and main dishes in 2017. Gourmet seafood sandwiches including, Maine lobster rolls, Louisiana style street food sandwiches with blackened fish and Cajun shrimp & crawfish balls are on trend. -

By providing this information we hope to encourage fuel efficient practices and provide guidance on evaluating investment in new equipment needed to adopt new practices, thereby enhancing the profitability of vessel business. -
Chilled Seafood in Multiple Retail (2018)
The chilled seafood sector continues to take the largest share of the multiple retail seafood market with a wide range of segments and species. It is unique in being the only seafood sector in consistent growth from 2007 to 2017. However, pressure from falling shopper confidence and reduced spending power has seen chilled volume continue to decline in 2018. -

Seafish facilitated the pre-summit workshop at the Seaweb Seafood Summit in Malta on Sunday 31 January 2016. The topic was ‘Social Responsibility in Seafood’. This workshop presented the ongoing or developing initiatives that aim to eliminate social and ethical concerns in the seafood industry, as well as map these initiatives throughout the supply chain. There were 14 powerpoint presentations which have been collated here. Please also see the handout and the summary note on the workshop. -
SR690 Potential Implications of the Landing Obligation on onshore seafood supply chains in the UK.
The aim of the work is to analyse the impact of the landing obligation in a whole supply chain context, and from financial, legal, operational and market perspectives. This project will:- •Map the UK supply chain and identify existing and perceived issues for each sector. •Assess the impact of issues in respect of changes in policy •Discuss potential consequences for each sector; for example, changes in operational behaviour, policy issues, loss of supply or loss of market. •Identify gaps in information and suggest better use of existing information. The analyses will be mainly qualitative. -
Feasibility of an Aquaculture and Fisheries Research and Development Centre at Brixham Laboratory Final Report: Findings and Recommendations
The report presents the outcome of a feasibility study, supported by Seafsh, for developing an aquaculture and fsheries research and development centre at a laboratory facility in Brixham. (formerly AstraZeneca’s, but transferred to Plymouth University two years ago). The proposed concept was a full-service operation that could support the UK seafood industry - including fsheries and aquaculture supply chains - with market-led research, development and analytics capabilities. -
