Development and testing of in-tank grading systems for cod juveniles — Seafish

Development and testing of in-tank grading systems for cod juveniles

Summary
Cod juveniles require regular grading to minimise problems with cannibalism, to optimise feeding regimes and growth, and to separate fish large enough for injection vaccination. Use of manual box graders has been standard practice but is time consuming and requires handling which often results in mortalities and lost growth. Automated grading machines are not effective for small fish. The objective of the project was to design, construct and test two separate in-tank grading systems for use with juvenile cod in raceways and circular tanks respectively.
