Stay safe with the digital First Aid at Sea guide on your phone
The ‘First Aid at Sea’ handbook, designed with the UK’s fishing fleet in mind, is a bespoke first aid guide for people working on fishing vessels.
The digital handbook covers 12 of the most serious health incidents at sea on a mobile-friendly platform. This is essential to ensure fishing vessel workers have access to vital first aid information, quickly. It also includes reminders to make use of safety equipment such as safety vests and PFDs (personal floatation devices).
The First Aid at Sea book is focused on a simple, uncomplicated layout with clear instructions so all the information you need is at hand in any emergency.

Using the digital First Aid at Sea guide
It is important to familiarise yourself with the guide as much as possible, so you know how to use it in an emergency.
The First Aid at Sea Digital Guide is saved in PDF format. To view and use the guide, we recommend using the free Adobe Acrobat Reader app, which can be downloaded from Apple and Android app stores.
Once you have downloaded Adobe Acrobat Reader to your mobile, open the First Aid at Sea Digital Guide within the app.
Setting up the First Aid at Sea Digital Guide in Adobe Acrobat Reader
Selecting View Settings:
In the menu bar, tap the View Settings icon. Select Single Page mode and Keep Screen On. This will allow to swipe through treatment steps and keep your screen awake when using the guide.
Saving the guide to ‘Starred documents’:
In the menu bar, tap the three dots. Scroll down and select the Star. This will save the First Aid at Sea Digital Guide to Adobe Reader’s ‘Starred documents’ so you can easily find it in an emergency.

The First Aid at Sea guide was made in collaboration with the Welsh Fishing Safety Committee and Welsh Government with funds from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF).
Print versions were given out to all fishing vessel owners in Wales and some have been given out in Northern Ireland too.
