RASS Wild Fishery profiles score risk on a five-point scale of 1 (very low risk) to 5 (very high risk) for four factors; stock, management, by-catch, and habitat. The risk assessment methodology has been peer-reviewed and published. An outlook table provides an indication on whether the risk of each component is likely to decrease, increase, or remain stable.
The primary objective of RASS is to support commercial seafood buyers by providing access to the wide range of information and data needed to facilitate the development of responsible sourcing strategies on a comprehensive range of fisheries whose products are in the UK supply-chain.
Another key characteristic of RASS is that the information presented is in plain English, so can be understood by a range of seafood buyers with differing backgrounds, from people who have a fisheries science background to those who are completely unfamiliar with seafood sustainability.
