Marine Survey Services

From 21 July 2020 responsibility for overseeing the construction and outfit of fishing vessels less than 24m registered length is returning to the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA).

This follows a decision by the Seafish Board in September 2019 to terminate our agreement with the MCA for providing these services on their behalf. Our decision to withdraw from this agreement reflects a growing recognition that this specialist work is significantly different to our more regular services and that MCA is better resourced to deliver it.

Seafish will continue to deliver marine survey services up until 20 July 2020. However, we will only be undertaking surveys and inspections up to and including 10 July 2020. During the final week of delivery, we will be finalising/issuing inspection reports, issuing certificates and ensuring that all ongoing build files are up-to-date ready for transfer to the MCA.

Any new build or consultancy contracts that have not been finished by 20 July 2020 will be terminated, outstanding fees refunded and all build documentation handed over to the MCA. Builders will need to re-apply to the MCA for any further inspections that are required and for certification.

The MCA has published guidance on Gov.UK on the new procedures to be implemented from 21 July 2020. This includes notification that applications can be submitted to the MCA from 13 July 2020.
