Atlantic Halibut

Hippoglossus hippoglossus

The Atlantic halibut is a large flatfish that can reach a weight of over 300kg in the wild.

Efforts to farm Atlantic halibut in land-based systems and marine net-pens were initiated in the 1980s. However, technical challenges have hampered the development of the industry.

In 2018, 1,918 tonnes of Atlantic halibut came from aquaculture, 96% of which was produced in Norway.
