Seafish Return to the Balmoral Show 2019

11 June 2019  |  Seafish News

As Northern Ireland’s biggest agricultural show returned to the Eikon Showground on 15th- 18th May.  Seafish made a splash at the Balmoral Show with our stand at the entrance to the FoodNI Pavilion, along with over 70 other food producers.

Several other local seafood companies were taking part this year, which is the fifth year seafood has been represented at the Balmoral Show: Sea Source sold and promoted local seafood, cooking and providing samples which attracted significant interest; Rooney Fish whose award winning oyster bar stand gave away a winning combination of oysters and prosecco while Portavogie-based Simply Scampi were using their new bespoke van outside the pavilion to sell fresh local scampi.

Seafish were represented on their stand by Phillip Quirie (Regional Project Coordinator), Dr Lynn Gilmore (Head of International Trade and Regions), Jacob Brydon (PR & Communications Executive) and Dr Annika Clements (Northern Ireland Manager) – with Master Fishmonger Hal Dawson assisting with filleting demonstrations using the locally supplied seafood at the pavilion’s food theatre.

There was a great level of engagement throughout the show, with the distribution of over 2000 “Fish is the Dish” local Northern Ireland recipe booklets and plenty of positive feedback.  Seafish also provided a new give-away in the form of “stress fish” which went down a treat with children and helped to promote the twice a week fish consumption message.

The fresh, locally-caught fish and shellfish display provided by George S Cully and Son, Portavogie, was a super talking point, bringing crowds of children and adults alike. There was great team cooperation and joint promotion between the seafood exhibitors at the show.

All stallholders reported great enthusiasm for their products from show visitors, excellent engagement and good sales – in spite of the weather being less than ideal.

We'll be returning for the show next year, so keep an eye out for announcements in the future. For more information on the Balmoral Show - visit the show's website.
