Scottish Seafood Summit Success

The first Scottish Seafood Summit has been hailed a success.

Taking place in Aberdeen last month, around 120 delegates attended the two day event listening to speakers discussing the issues and challenges around the UK’s exit from the EU.

New Fisheries Minister Announced

Robert Goodwill was appointed as Minister of State for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs last month.

He has been the MP for Scarborough and Whitby since 2005. Read more.

Fishermen saved by PFD

A fisherman who went overboard from a Brixham beamer was wearing a Seafish issued Personal Floatation Device (PFD) which undoubtedly saved his life. 

Due to poor weather conditions, the crew on board were unable to get the fisherman back on the beamer. Gus Caslake, Regional Manager for the South West England confirmed that the PFD had been issued to the fisherman at the Skipper Expo International in Bournemouth in 2014. Read the full story here.

Fishing News Awards

Seafish Gear Technologist, Mike Montgomerie, has been nominated for a lifetime achievement award at the Fishing News Awards.

Seafish has once again sponsored the Young Fisherman of the Year category to reward a fisherman, under 25 years old at the end of 2018, who has made a clear commitment to the fishing industry.
