Recruitment for Chairperson of Seafish Wales Advisory Committee (SWAC)

10 December 2019  |  Seafish News

In Wales, Seafish facilitates the Seafish Wales Advisory Committee (SWAC), a national forum by which the Welsh seafood industry, through its representatives, can input into the decision making process of Seafish. SWAC also provides a key platform for liaison between different Welsh seafood sectors, scientists, Natural Resources Wales and Welsh Government.

We are seeking a chairperson to provide leadership and direction to the SWAC members and enable the committee to fulfil its responsibilities and formulate proposals for investment of Seafish levy in Wales. The Chairperson will ensure that recommendations of SWAC are given due consideration within the Seafish decision making process.

The chairperson will work closely with the Seafish team in Wales and the SWAC members, helping them to achieve the SWAC’s objective in Wales. We are seeking someone who can bring their skills and experience to the committee and facilitate SWAC meetings in a stimulating, well-rounded and carefully considered way to achieve strategic decision-making.

This is an influential role that will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the willingness to challenge and a proven ability to drive consensus. It would be helpful, but not essential, for the chairperson to have knowledge of the seafood industry in Wales.

SWAC will meet at least twice a year, with secretarial support and Seafish staff attendance. The chairperson is expected to chair all of these meetings. Meetings will take place at various locations throughout Wales, and are expected to last around four hours. The exact timings of the meetings will depend upon the location, and overnight stays will be kept to a minimum.

The position is unremunerated, and is for an initial three year term. All reasonable out of pocket expenses will be paid. Appointment will be made based on merit; Seafish is committed to equality and diversity.
