The latest ICES report, published on 15 May 2019, makes an upward revision of the stock size of the fishery.
Their previous assessment in 2018 had found a continued reduction in the spawning stock biomass (SSB) estimates, which gives an indication of the status and reproductive capacity of the stock. At the time it was recognised that some scientific data was unavailable and ICES agreed to do an additional assessment.
Our Responsible Sourcing produced a briefing note earlier this year outlining why responsible fisheries management procedures had been put in place. Read the note, designed to build confidence and understanding across the UK seafood supply chain, here.
