Fishing industry advised to get ready for EU catch certificates as part of contingency planning

10 January 2019  |  Regulation
Defra and the MMO (Marine Management Organisation) have today advised the UK fishing industry to ensure that they can continue to import and export fish and fish products in the event that the UK leaves the EU without a transition arrangement.

In the event of a ‘no deal’ exit from the EU – which the Government has emphasised that they are working to avoid - most fish and fish products imported or exported between the UK and EU from 29 March 2019 will require a catch certificate. This includes fishermen who land fish directly into EU ports.

Full details are available on the Government’s website.
