Climate Change - Adaptation

Climate change and adaptation is a significant strategic challenge facing the seafood industry. In response to this challenge, Seafish worked with industry and external partners to develop a managed adaptive approach to climate change.

Climate Change Adaptation Report
In 2014/15 we partnered with external experts Marine Climate Change Impacts Partnership (MCCIP) and Stewart Brown Associates and engaged around 40 stakeholders in a reporting exercise which set out to:

  • Provide a review of projected climate change impacts with implications for seafood
  • Identify relevant seafood industry adaptation responses

Following this work we published a climate change adaptation report for the UK wild capture seafood industry. The report considers the major industry impacts arising from key climate change drivers and sets out major areas of adaptation action. The full report and associated documents are available to download from the Further info section at the right of this page.

Ongoing climate change watching brief
One of the conclusions from the initial adaptation work recommended that a light touch watching brief be maintained on how climate change is affecting seafood and industry response. The brief highlights important UK industry experiences of climate change in both domestic and international contexts and is based on a short survey of industry operators and original contributors to capture what they are seeing in their part of the industry. Copies of the reports are available to download from the Further info section at the right of this page.
