Marketing Manager

We are looking for a Marketing Manager to join our Marketing and  Communications team here at Seafish. This role is based in Edinburgh and reports to our Head of Marketing and Communications.

1. Job Purpose

  • To effectively lead and manage the consumer marketing activities of Seafish including development of the Seafish consumer brand, digital engagement and consumer market segmentation activities with the primary aim of getting more people eating more fish more often.

2. Accountabilities

  • Delivery of Seafish Consumer Marketing work programmes as outlined in the corporate plan (on-line and traditional) including Fish is the Dish, Seafood Week and Health Promotion
  • Daily management of the Seafish digital and social media channels currently being used including the content and usability of our three websites
  • Management of Marketing and Communications Officer, Digital Engagement Executive and Digital Engagement Officer as part of the Communications and Marketing team
  • Project management and reporting monthly, quarterly, annual in order to ensure transparent and effective management systems
  • Responsibility for controlling the Consumer Marketing annual project budget ensuring value for money and a positive ROI for industry
  • Identifying and maximising the marketing (both traditional and digital) opportunities that will encourage more people to eat more fish more often
  • Inform Head of Marketing and Communications and Executive on consumer issues and trend
  • Manage ongoing relationships with industry marketing contacts and external agencies
  • Manage the implementation and ongoing development of our digital strategy
  • Manage the implementation and ongoing development of our market insight/segmentation program of work

3. Planning and organising

  • Responsibility for effective measurement of external campaigns in order to prove effectiveness and impact of Seafish activities on behalf of industry
  • Responsibility for ensuring a joined up approach with B2B Marketing and Communications activities in order to ensure a positive and integrated approach to our overall marketing and communications activities

4. Decision making and judgement

  • Freedom to develop consumer marketing activities within the boundaries of the overall Marketing and Communications annual plan
  • Freedom to allocate budget and resources to consumer marketing activities within the boundaries of the overall Marketing and Communications annual budget
  • Management direction over consumer marketing activities as part of the overall Marketing and Communications annual plan and in collaboration with other activities
  • Report monthly on project and budget activities as outlined in the internal Seafish Project and Reporting structure
  • Freedom to procure external services and support for Marketing activities within the current Seafish Procurement guidelines

5. Essential working relationships 

Internal relationships

  • Department Head in driving delivery
  • Marketing team members in driving consistent and innovative measureable delivery
  • Seafish colleagues in managing, informing and involving them in the delivery of Seafish activities 

External relationships

  • Trade and national media to act as spokesperson 
  • Industry marketing professionals to support delivery of marketing initiatives
  • Creative agencies to brief and innovate on marketing campaigns 
  • Educational establishments to support delivery of educational initiatives

7. Knowledge, skills and experience            

  • Degree in Marketing or professional qualification from the CIM or similar accredited body
  • 3-4 years' experience in delivering integrated consumer marketing campaigns particularly within the food/drink retail sector
  • In-depth working knowledge of leading project management (e.g. understanding of PRINCE 2)
  • 3-4 years track record in people management and development is a must
  • 2-3 years of working with CRM systems e.g. Microsoft Dynamics to full effect
  • 3-4 years' experience in effectively managing the delivery of national and consumer marketing campaigns on time, to budget and with outcomes achieved or surpassed
  • Advanced knowledge of measurement techniques and proving ROI in both digital and traditional marketing
  • Demonstrable experience of working within a robust monthly reporting system either in-house or with an agency to ensure transparency and value for money
  • Good presentation skills at a well-developed level with the ability to speak excellent English plainly and clearly
  • Ability to write to a high standard in English is a must
  • Proven ability to manage Marketing budgets to a high level of accuracy 
  • 3-4 years  demonstrable record in working as a positive and highly effective contributor to a team is highly desired
  • The ability to demonstrate a strong track record in delivering the Seafish values in their career;  integrity, collaborate, innovate, accountable, expert, driven
  • Advanced understanding of market segmentation for the seafood market in the UK 
  • Membership of an appropriate professional body and commitment to their CPD scheme is desirable
  • In-depth experience of working within a robust monthly reporting system either in-house or with an agency to ensure transparency and value for money
