Graphic Designer

We are looking for a Graphic Designer to join our Communications and Marketing team here at Seafish. This role is based in Edinburgh and reports to our PR Manager.

1. Job Purpose

  • To provide innovative design solutions across a variety of briefs and platforms, working on quick turnaround projects and other ad hoc tasks with a focus on digital and campaign assets to improve engagement with our stakeholders and act as the brand guardian for all Seafish outputs.

2. Dimensions

  • Produce a variety of artwork - branding, infographics, animations, event media, social media assets, particularly quick turnaround work to react to stories
  • Manage full process from design concept through to final artwork
  • Adhere to strict brand guidelines and act as the brand guardian for all design work
  • Developing the internal process for requesting and commissioning design work
  • Play a key role in the rebrand project and acting as the main point of contact with design agencies
  • Ensure creative deadlines are met and work schedule is managed properly
  • Comfortable changing creative style for each audience
  • Research projects in order to produce relevant and quality creative solutions

3. Accountabilities 

  • Guardian of the brand to ensure all Seafish outputs are in line with the brand guidelines
  • Management of the design work schedule
  • Ensuring strict deadlines for creative work are met 
  • Small budget management
  • Management of design agency relationship

4. Planning and organising 

  • Highly skilled at managing workload and deadlines
  • Reprioritising work when required
  • Ability to pick up ad hoc and last minute requests
  • Providing realistic timelines to colleagues and external agencies 
  • Ensuring artwork files are organised 

5. Decision making/use of judgement

  • Making decisions on suitability of creative artwork from third parties/external agencies
  • Understanding when to prioritise work 

6. Essential working relationships 

Internal relationships

  • Very close working with the wider marketing and communications team to ensure briefs are understood and timelines agreed
  • Working directly with colleagues on creative projects, providing advice on creative solutions and guidance on using the brand

External relationships

  • Managing the relationship with design agencies
  • Dealing with third parties requiring artwork to ensure specifications are correct
  • Dealing with stakeholders as part of any joint projects to ensure Seafish brand guidelines are followed 

7. Knowledge, skills and experience              

  • 2-3 years experience working with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Knowledge of front-end digital design
  • In-depth experience of working on creative campaigns 
  • Ability to understand, interpret and explain technical or complex information in a visual way.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite to intermediate level experience 
  • Strong understanding of print techniques
  • A working knowledge of producing quality infographics and social media assets
  • A working knowledge of producing animations
  • Comfortable working with complex data and pulling creative elements from this
  • A relevant qualification (i.e Graphic Design)
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills to manage workflow and deadlines
