Digital Engagement Officer

We are looking for a Digital Engagement Officer to join our Marketing and Communications team here at Seafish. This role is based in Edinburgh and reports to our Marketing Manager.

1. Job Purpose

To be responsible for Seafish' digital channels, delivering best in class digital projects and implementing new ways of working through a data and analytics led approach to continuous improvement. 

Working with colleagues across the Marcomms team and with colleagues from across the wider organisation, the post holder will be pivotal in our new stakeholder communications approach, driving traffic to our digital channels and engaging with our external audiences to build 2-way communications; working to understand our stakeholders needs and behaviours and to communicate the value of the Seafish proposition at the right time in the right way to our multiple audience segments - both internally and externally.  

In addition to inputting to and supporting our communications plans, the post holder will undertake new digital projects, including support to the production and ongoing evolution of our new website, consolidating and supporting our other websites, integrating our CRM system and delivering marketing automation.

The post holder will additionally play a leading role in managing the conversational social media calendar for Seafish across all digital channels creating/supervising content delivery, optimising reach and governing/supporting users. 

2. Dimensions

3. Accountabilities 

  • Deliver an optimisation plan to cover all Seafish digital channels across: copy content, design, navigation/data architecture and user journeys, ensuring maximum impact for efforts;
  • Maximise the performance of all digital channels and deliver continuous improvements for both B2B and B2C audiences;
  • Develop segmented, targeted and relevant marketing campaigns that drive loyalty;
  • Manage the monthly social conversation calendar by identifying themes and supporting colleague(s) to deliver tailored communications to the target audience using Seafish digital channels;
  • Seek continuous improvement by analysing and interrogating statistical analytics to be able to identify and implement recommendations on performance and engagement for Seafish digital channels and define and exploit online user journeys;
  • Provide intelligence to colleagues and monitor the performance of work while also providing target audiences with accurate and valuable information that they value;  
  • Identify and deliver new content areas/functionality for online channels that will assist Seafish deliver our corporate objectives;
  • Provide expert skills and knowledge in the digital engagement area that supports department specific and organisation wide projects;  
  • Deliver user centric (customer focussed) and high performing digital channels to assist in supporting improved customer (stakeholder) satisfaction with the ultimate goal of a single customer view;
  • Research, create and develop content for Seafish website and other channels;
  • Be a positive and influential member of Marcomms and Seafish for digital.

4. Planning and organising 

  • Plan across multiple timeframes and multiple channels;
  • Engage with staff at all levels;
  • Engage with identified agencies and suppliers;
  • Advise and support Marketing and Communications colleagues from a Digital perspective in developing a  robust communication programme linked to the corporate plan and our KPIs;
  • Manage own workload and priorities on a day-to-day basis.   

5. Decision making and judgement

  • Ability to make good judgements and advise on best digital approach to communications to reach the right audiences in the right way and at the right times;
  • Ability to prioritise own workload on a day-to-day basis;
  • Recognise when to escalate an issue or problem;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines;
  • Editorial judgement in writing copy/content for Seafish channels for different audiences;
  • Utilise project management and internal reporting systems.

6. Essential working relationships 

Internal relationships

  • Report to the Marketing Manager, while working closely with the Stakeholder Engagement Manager and with other members Marketing and Communications team:
  • Engage with all staff across the organisation: 
  • Support the Head of Marketing and Communications when required.

External relationships

  • Regular communication with external stakeholders and industry bodies;
  • Engage with appointed suppliers, agencies and contractors for projects;
  • Required to be a confident communicator with the ability to talk to all sectors of the industry and with people at all levels in and out of the organisation.

7. Knowledge, skills and experience     

  • A degree or Professional qualification in Digital Communications or Marketing led field;
  • 2-3 years proven track record of leading digital development in an organisation;
  • Solid experience of managing and maintaining websites - using a content management systems (CMS) and defining/using customer journeys to maximise impact;
  • Fully competent in Google Analytics and competency across a range of analytical tools for social/email/CRM platforms;
  • Strong writing/editorial skills across a wide range of digital channels including web, email and social; 
  • Experience of managing conversations and engaging with audiences on multiple social media platforms simultaneously to seek loyalty;
  • Demonstrable understanding of how to manage paid media campaigns to audience segments including PPC, social and digital advertising;
  • Excellent planning and prioritisation skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision;
  • Good project management skills to ensure projects are delivered on time and issues escalated as required; 
  • Experience in developing communication plans and able to respond to internal and external enquiries;
  • Competent researcher to provide support in campaign planning and be able to respond to internal and external enquiries;
  • Excellent analytical skills and investigating skills for business improvement and optimisation of resources.

8. Special features

  •  Travel to Grimsby and other parts of the UK when required.
