Communications and Marketing Officer

We are looking for a Communications and Marketing Officer to join our Communications and Marketing team here at Seafish. This role is based in Edinburgh and reports to our Marketing Manager.

1. Job Purpose

  • To be responsible for the creation of engaging content for a range of audiences and use across different digital marketing and media. This will include the planning, implementation and delivery of content-led campaigns to support the wider marketing and communications team with the overarching goal to increasing seafood consumption towards the nation eating two portions of fish per week.
  • The post holder will also be a key figure in supporting and managing elements of Seafish's major consumer campaigns Fish is the Dish, Fish 2 a Week, Seafood Week and additional activities throughout the year. This includes the implementation of media campaigns for Seafish to extend reach and achieve campaign and Corporate Plan objectives.
  • Working with colleagues across the Marketing and Communications team and with staff from across the wider organisation, the post holder will be pivotal in the delivery of our new Corporate Plan, as we aim to achieve ambitious targets across all our campaign work. You will plan media and communications activities with the Marketing Manager as you look to maximise coverage and reach of our work. 
  • The post holder will be insight-driven, able to use data to inform campaign decisions and improve the performance of content and activities, and have a keen interest in analytics. 
  • The post holder will additionally play a leading role in managing the dissemination of content, supporting the team's conversational social media calendar for Seafish across all digital channels, creating and supervising content delivery, optimising reach and supporting users.

2. Dimensions

  • Play a leading role in the planning and delivery of a range of campaigns.
  • Manage own projects and day-to-day work outputs
  • Engage with staff within the Marketing and Communications team, the wider organisation and stakeholder partners in the media and within industry
  • Deliver content, communications and marketing functions internally and externally.

3. Accountabilities 

  • Focus on meeting campaign objectives, provide ideas, research and develop these to maximise the performance of Seafish campaigns and deliver continuous improvements
  • Manage mini-campaigns for consumer segments  and seasonal projects (eg Halloween and Christmas) using PR/recipe placement, social media, blogs and email marketing
  • Support the delivery of campaigns and  paid advertising work as part of Seafish campaigns to agreed resources and deadlines
  • Improve the value of marketing activity to heighten consumer engagement and activation eg subscribers and increased links back to the website
  • To support media relations work for Seafish by collating and responding to enquiries, developing media releases and managing agencies, contractors, and suppliers for projects.
  • Manage marketing and communications projects in support of the Corporate Plan objectives for Seafish activities
  • Research, create and develop content for Seafish communications and marketing  channels and support industry partners in their work to amplify Seafish campaigns and deliver their own
  • Provide target audiences with accurate, engaging and valuable information
  • Produce documentation for work projects including reports,  planning documents and deliver activities in line with Seafish processes
  • Provide regular updates to Seafish Executive, Heads of Teams, Project Managers and external stakeholders on progress and delivery of projects

  • Advise and support Marketing and Communications colleagues from a media and content creation perspective in developing a  robust communication programme linked to the corporate plan and our key performance indicators
  • Manage own workload and priorities on a day-to-day basis.

  • Ability to make good judgements and advise on best communications approach to reach the right audiences in the right way and at the right times

  • Editorial judgement in creating content for Seafish channels for different audiences

6. Essential working relationships 

Internal relationships

  • Report to the Marketing Manager, while working closely with other Managers and with other members Marketing and Communications team
  • Engage with all staff across the organisation

External relationships

  • Regular communication with external stakeholders and industry bodies;
  • Engage with appointed suppliers, agencies and contractors for projects;
  • Required to be a confident communicator with the ability to talk to all sectors of the industry and with people at all levels in and out of the organisation.

7. Knowledge, skills and experience           

  • Degree in communications, media, or marketing related subject with 2-3 years' of work experience in relevant employment 
  • Excellent understanding of digital and traditional marketing and communication channels and the relevance to various audiences and consumer segments
  • In-depth knowledge and 2-3 years' experience of  PR and media relations 
  • Excellent planning and prioritisation skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Experience in developing communication plans and able to respond to internal and external enquiries
  • Project management skills to ensure projects are delivered on time and issues escalated as required 
  • Excellent writing skills to suit a variety of channels and different audiences including staff, consumers to industry audiences with in-depth proof reading and grammar skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills and investigating skills for business improvement and optimisation of resources.
  • Excellent ICT Skills in Microsoft Office

8. Special features

  • Travel in the UK when required
