Fish and Shellfish Product Knowledge

The Fish and Shellfish Product Knowledge qualification is designed for managers working throughout the fish and shellfish industry and specifically for fishmongers at any level.

The programme offers individuals the opportunity to develop their knowledge of various species of fish and shellfish commonly sold in the UK. It is suited to both new entrant and established managers in the industry and experienced fishmongers looking to gain recognised qualifications and develop their skills.

The qualification comprises two mandatory units, both of which must be passed in order for a candidate to be awarded the full level 3 qualification. These units are:

  • Principles of Marine Finfish
  • Principles of Non-Marine Finfish and Other Marine Seafood Products

This qualification is supported by online learning resources and is largely self directed following attendance at a one or two day introductory workshop.

Successful candidates will be awarded with a Level 3 award. More information can be found at the Seafood Training Academy.

This Level 3 qualification shares some common units with the Level 3 Fish and Shellfish Industry Skills (FSIS) vocational qualification as well as the Level 2 FSIS NVQ/Apprenticeship framework and Level 2 Fish and Shellfish SVQ/Modern Apprenticeship framework.
