Training programmes

We have developed a range of training programmes, many of which lead to a nationally recognised qualification.

Training programmes in food safety, health & safety, seafood quality assessment and other seafood training programmes available via our network of Seafish approved trainers. Some courses are also available through open learning and eLearning. Our portfolio of taught courses includes:

Introduction to Fishmongering

This one-day course has been developed in collaboration with the Billingsgate Seafood Training School.

It is ideal for those interested in pursuing a career in the seafood retail industry. People who have recently started a career as a fishmonger or working on a seafood counter in a supermarket would also find this course beneficial.

The course consists of theory based modules including customer service and practical based modules including knife skills. Candidates completing this course receive a Seafish certificate of attendance.

Fish Filleting Training Programme

The Fish Filleting Training Programme has been developed with assistance from Billingsgate Seafood Training School. The programme focuses on various fish filleting techniques such as skinning and steaking, using both round and flat fish.

When candidates have completed their training, they then complete an assessment. If they achieve the required standard, they are awarded a Seafish certificate of competency.
