One of Seafish's primary aims is to ensure a sustainable, socially responsible future for the UK seafood industry.
We are committed to responsible sourcing throughout the supply chain, which involves protecting resources, fish stocks and ecosystems; supporting the developmenting of sustainable marine aquaculture methods; facilitating well informed sourcing policies and promoting best environmental practice.
Some of the ways in which we seek to improve standards of responsible sourcing throughout the industry are:
- Promoting responsible sourcing in all sectors of the industry. For example by offering certification to fishermen (through the Responsible Fishing Scheme) and foodservice providers (through the National Fish and Chip Awards) who practice responsible sourcing.
- By informing and advising consumers and professionals about responsible sourcing. By informing and advising consumers and professionals about responsible sourcing. For example through our Risk Assessment for Sourcing Seafood (RASS) website designed for all all businesses in the UK who are commercially sourcing seafood.
- We produce advice for seafood industry professionals such as fishmongers, chefs, retailers and consumers on buying sustainable seafood.
- By bringing together all sectors of the seafood industry in discussion forums in order to understand, discuss and prioritise matters of sustainability.
