This is a suite of six CDs, each with guidance notes. Each CD consists of an interactive electronic model that is intended to provide assistance in assessing the worth of a shellfish cultivation plan of a particular species. The models are planned to be incorporated in a “Seafish Hyperbook” which will contain much background information on the technology and nomenclature of each species’ cultivation in a multi-media format. The models are planning guides that each provide various economic indicators and outputs, and can be used repeatedly for different scenarios, allowing rapid “what-if” calculations. Each model consists administration costs; other operating costs; expected net selling price; harvest shortfall component; and financing means. The overall outcome (i.e. increasing or decreasing cash balance) is then calculated with figures given of profits/losses in each of the first six years of operation. The user may then choose to adjust his model inputs so as to study their effect on the outcome, or else access a variety of spreadsheet information relating to business economics, including profit/(loss) projection, discounted cash flow projection (with Internal Rate of Return (IRR)), a balance sheet, and the financial ratios as applied in year 7 at full production. A sensitivity analysis can also be called upon to cover a range of percentage variations of certain model variables, with consequent outcome on IRR. Each CD also includes on it a set of guidance notes for using the model; a paper copy of these notes accompanies each CD.
