What we do in training
We promote training to processors in four ways:
• We develop and maintain training courses and
learning materials;
• We work with a network of Approved Training
Providers who deliver our courses throughout the UK;
• We work with Partners in the Seafood Training
Academy who are active in England;
• We work to promote the benefits of training and
skilled staff to employers throughout the UK.
At Seafish we have available a suite of training options that are relevant to a broad range of individuals working in the processing sector of the seafood industry. These range from training videos to courses leading to nationally recognised qualifications, so it is highly likely we have the right training for you and your staff. We have open learning, distance learning and eLearning programmes available on food safety, health & safety, fish frying and customer service.
In collaboration with Improve Ltd we have developed a comprehensive suite of fish and shellfish national occupational standards that are used within Improve Proficiency Qualifications (IPQs) and for Apprenticeships in Fish and Shellfish. We have also developed Level 3 Improve Vocational Qualifications (IVQs) in several key areas for processors, retailers, food service and the bivalve sectors.
We have established the Seafood Training Academy with other partners in the seafood industry to bring additional opportunities in seafood learning and training, and we work closely with national awarding organisations such as the Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS), the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) and Food and Drink Qualifications (FDQ). We also work closely with organisations such as the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF).
