    Factsheet - Haddock (2018 Update)

    This factsheet provides a summary of the UK value chain for haddock. It is intended to inform stakeholders of the UK seafood industry about the performance of the haddock product. In 2017 the volume of UK haddock supply increased through both a rise in import volume and UK vessels increasing their volume of landings. Export volume of haddock also increased. In 2018 (up to latest available data) sales of haddock in retail and commercial foodservice increased.

    Fact Sheet: Seafish activities in relation to the Landing Obligation. December 2017

    Under the revised Common Fisheries Policy a Landing Obligation (LO) is being introduced gradually, between 2015 and 2019 for all commercial fisheries (species under TACs, or under minimum sizes) in European waters. Seafish’s work on the LO is diverse and cuts across a number of work streams. We are providing valuable services to industry and government and our coordination role in communicating about ongoing projects is limiting duplication of work. This paper summarises our recent, current and future activities. These activities have been agreed by Seafish’s three Sector Panels and demonstrate a commitment to help industry meet the challenges of the LO. Key work areas for Seafish are: economic implications; gear selectivity; the Seafish Discard Action Group; briefings and guidance; outreach; a project to assess the impact of the LO on the UK supply chain; sectoral support; and marketing and communications.

    Factsheet - Mackerel (2018 Update)

    This factsheet provides a summary of the United Kingdom (UK) value chain for mackerel. It is intended to inform stakeholders of the UK seafood industry about the performance of the mackerel product. In 2017 the volume of UK mackerel supply increased through a rise in import volume. However, landings and export volume of mackerel experienced declines. In 2018 (up to latest available data) sales of mackerel in retail increased and commercial food service decreased.

    Seafood Consumption 2017

    There are three methods available to measure and track GB seafood consumption which provide slightly different yet similar figures; whilst useful for comparison, it is considered that the Defra family food dataset, produced to robust national statistical standards with reasonable time availability is considered to be the best source for an accurate, consistent benchmark. This data shows a 2% increase in seafood consumption from 157.83 grams per person per week in 2014 to 161.07 grams per person per week in 2015.

    Factsheet - Ambient (2018)

    This factsheet provides a summary of the performance of ambient seafood in the multiple retail seafood market up to June 2018. The ambient seafood sector, although the smallest in terms of value of market share in the multiple retail seafood market, is seeing strong value growth +5.0%. However, when compared with the chilled and frozen sectors, ambient is seeing bigger volume declines (-5.0%) largely driven by the high increases in price per kg to £6.39 (+10.4%).
