Seafish works closely with the seafood industry to identify training needs at management and operative level. We have developed a broad range of training materials and courses to meet many of the needs of people working in the onshore sectors of the industry. These range from training videos to nationally recognised qualifications, so it is highly likely we have the right training for you and your staff. Seafish have established the Seafood Training Academy with other partners in the seafood industry to bring additional opportunities in learning and training. To find out more about the Seafood Training Academy visit their website at www.seafoodacademy.org.

Seafood Training Expert GroupThe Seafood Training Expert Group provides strategic guidance to Seafish, Improve (the Sector Skills Council for Food and Drink Manufacturing) and other relevant stakeholders on the standards, qualifications and training required to support and maintain world class skills in the UK seafood sector (click here to view the Terms of Reference). It brings together employers (nominated by key trade bodies) and training experts (from Seafish, Improve and the Seafood Training Academy) and covers the processing, retailing and fish frying sectors of the seafood industry. The Group met for the first time at Seafish's offices in Edinburgh on 19th March 2009 (click here to view the draft minutes and agreed actions). Its next meeting is at Improve's offices in York on 28th May 2009.If you are an employer in the seafood industry with a strong interest in training and would like to get involved with this Group, please contact Seafish on 01472 252302.

Approved Training ProvidersApproved Training Providers (ATPs) are able to administer the delivery of Seafish approved training courses, assist with accessing Seafish funding (ITSG and Scottish partnership funding) and generally provide guidance and support on training matters. ATPs may (or may not) be approved trainers or training centres in their own right.
Seafish approved trainers and training centres are usually approved to deliver one or more courses, but are not always able to administer funding applications.

National and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (NVQ/SVQs)National and Scottish Vocational Qualifications (NVQ/SVQs) are UK recognised qualifications awarded to trainees who have been able to demonstrate competence in their occupation. They are developed and promoted by the appropriate Sector Skills Council.
