Training

Training is the bedrock of any successful business. Well-trained staff are more efficient, happy and productive. Seafish have devised a suite of training materials that are relevant to a broad range of individuals working in the seafood industry.

Print

Seafish works closely with the seafood industry to identify training needs at management and operative level. We have developed a broad range of training materials and courses to meet many of the needs of people working in the onshore sectors of the industry. These range from training videos to nationally recognised qualifications, so it is highly likely we have the right training for you and your staff. See below for more details, or click on the specific sections in the menu to your left.

Seafish have established the Seafood Training Academy with other partners in the seafood industry to bring additional opportunities in learning and training. To find out more about the Seafood Training Academy visit their website at www.seafoodacademy.org.

Training Grants
Click here for information on grant support in Scotland.

Seafish Individual Training Support Grants
For information on how the ITSG system works, how to apply for a grant and where to find a Seafish approved trainer, see below.

ITSG grants take affect from the 1st July 2008 in all parts of the UK except Scotland.

How do they work?
Individual Training Support Grants are available from Seafish to support trainees in the seafood industry undrtaking Seafish approved training courses.  Not all Seafish approved courses are currently eligible for ITSG support and in many instances the Individual Training Support Grant will only cover part of the course costs.

Trainees should register for the ITSG in advance of undertaking their courses.  Registration for ITSGs can be done through an Approved Training Provider (ATP).  ITSGs are paid after the course has been delivered and the trainee has been awarded their certificate.

General Guidance on ITSGs
A draft guide to applying for ITSG support has been produced and this will answer many of the questions about ITSGs.  A word document is available from this website - click here.

How much is it worth?
The amounts vary and may change from time to time.

For current values and a list of eligible courses see the Seafishing ITSG List

For current values and a list of eligible courses see the Onshore ITSG List

How do I make an application?
Contact an Approved Training Provider (ATP) who will deal with this.

Applications -for information on Grant Applications and to download an application form click here to go to the appropriate webpage.

The Group met for the first time at Seafish's offices in Edinburgh on 19th March 2009 (click here to view the draft minutes and agreed actions). Its next meeting is at Improve's offices in York on 28th May 2009.
