Legislation

Legislation affects seafood on many levels, through laws, rules, codes of practice and guidance. It’s important that all seafood businesses understand the legislation that affects them, so that they can respond appropriately to developments and adhere to legislation when it’s in place.

Food Legislation Expert Group

Seafish’s Legislation Expert Group is made up of representatives from all UK seafood sectors, from catchers through to retailers. It monitors food legislation proposals, explains them to industry and contributes to the development of food legislation issues, such as labelling, food hygiene, animal waste and contaminants.

Its main remit is to interpret and clarify the detail of new and existing legislation for those working in the seafood industry, as well as ensuring the legislators and policy-makers are kept fully informed about the industry's views and interests.
