What we do

We offer the International Trade and Distributors sector important information on responsible sourcing, market research, legislation, training and economic analysis.

We are the UK's only cross-sectoral seafood body, working with the entire seafood industry from fishermen to consumers. Our work is aimed at raising standards, improving efficiency and ensuring that our industry develops in a viable.

We work closely with importing and exporting companies to help them compete in the market.

We have a fund of money available for seafood companies and seafood groups to bid for financial assistance for international trade, called the Industry Project Fund (SPF).

We fully support sustainable fishing. To help buyers make informed decisions when sourcing sustainable supplies Seafish produces Responsible Sourcing Guides covering all major species sold in the UK.

We condemn Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing without reservation. This undermines the drive towards ensuring a sustainable future for the planet and for our industry. IUU also results in valuable resources being stolen from many third world countries. In a drive to eradicate IUU from the supply chain in the EU, regulations have introduced by the Commission requiring that all imports from third countries outside the EU must be accompanied by an authenticated catch certificate. Seafish has produced a guide to this legislation.

To maintain regular dialogue with importers, Seafish and the British Frozen Foods Federation host regular meetings of an Importers Committee. This forum discusses issues and identifies solutions. It also gives the opportunity to meet legislators, enforcement authorities and other agencies directly involved in the international trade of seafood.

To assist exporting companies Seafish has published export guides for a number of countries.

We also provide a quarterly e-newsletter for Processors, Importers and Distributors including updates on the work that Seafish is doing to improve quality, safety, sustainability and efficiency.
