Training is the bedrock of any successful business. We have devised a suite of training materials relevant to international trade and distributors.

Well-trained, competent staff are more efficient, motivated and productive.  Seafish's role in supporting training for the processing sector includes learning programme development, advice and guidance on training, working with approved training providers, making good use of fish and shellfish occupational standards and actively supporting the take-up of training and qualifications.

What we do in trainingWe promote training to processors by developing courses and materials; working with a network of approved training providers, and supporting the Seafood Training Academy.Training programmesWe have developed a range of training programmes, many of which lead to a nationally recognized qualification. Training programmes in food safety, health & safety, seafood quality assessment, bivalve purification and fish filleting are available.

Seafood training academySeafish, along with our other partners, constitute the Seafood Training Academy, recognized as the Champion for the Seafood Network by the National Skills Academy for Food Manufacturing. Seafish e-LearningFood Safety and Seafood Smoking e-learning packages are available online from Seafish. Whether you need a formal qualification in food safety, or simply want to improve your understanding of how to smoke haddock, Seafish e-Learning is for you. National Occupational Standards for ProcessorsThe new (2010) fish and shellfish occupational standards represent a significant leap forward for the seafood processing and retail sectors, perhaps the most important development in 20 years. The new standards will drive forward qualifications, apprenticeships and new training programmes/materials.
