Responsible sourcing

Sustainable responsibly-sourced seafood lies at the heart of the 21st-century seafood industry. We keep importers and distributors up-to-date with unbiased seafood sourcing information.

IUU fishing
Seafish has collated up-to-date information on measures to address Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing.

Responsible Sourcing Guides
Sourcing sustainable seafood can be a confusing process without up-to-date information and unbiased guidance.

The Responsible Sourcing Guides, produced by Seafish, contain information on issues, stock assessment, conservation measures and management worldwide for the individual stocks for 27 species.

The information was obtained from scientific, industry and governmental sources and appropriate references are given. There is also a short section on the product characteristics of the species, including seasonality.

Reports and factsheets on sustainability
Seafish offers International Trade and Distributors a wide range of resources for those seeking more information about sustainable seafood.

We have also produced a guide to the seafood industry overall, "The Price of Fish?" which provides an overview of the current situation regarding sustainability, health, and the changing professions in the seafood industry.

Responsible Fishing Scheme
The Responsible Fishing Scheme has been developed to raise standards in the catching sector, enabling those within the seafood supply chain to demonstrate their commitment to the responsible sourcing of seafood. The aim is that, over time, accreditation will become a condition of supply.

The Responsible Fishing Scheme demonstrates that a vessel operates to industry good practice guidelines. The scheme gives an assurance to the supply chain that fish from the vessel has been caught responsibly.  It will also give the vessel a tool to allow them to positively position themselves in the global marketplace.

The Common Language Group
A cross-industry group that develops consensus positions on a range of important supply chain issues, such as discards and Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU fishing).
