Peru restrictions to continue

07 November 2011

The current restriction on the importation of bivalve molluscs from Peru has been extended to 30 November 2012. In 2008 an outbreak of hepatitis A was found to relate to the consumption of contaminated bivalve molluscs imported from Peru, which prompted the European Commission to ban all imports of bivalve molluscs from Peru except cooked bivalves and eviscerated pectinidae of aquaculture origin.

Commission Implementing Decision 2011/723 is available here: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2011:288:0026:0027:EN:PDF
