Japanese radiation checks to continue

29 September 2011

Radiation controls on imports of seafood from Japan will remain in place until 31 December. The temporary rules require testing on all seafood products from 12 radiation-affected prefectures for the presence of iodine-131, caesium-134 and caesium-137. A new regulation containing the date extension and consolidating previous regulations has just been published in the Official Journal.

Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 961/2011 of 27 September 2011 imposing special conditions governing the import of feed and food originating in or consigned from Japan following the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power station and repealing Regulation (EU) No 297/2011: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2011:252:0010:0015:EN:PDF
