Criticism of US seafood import controls

In a recent report, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) has criticised the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA)'s programme to oversee the safety of imported fish and seafood. In its report, entitled Seafood Safety: FDA Needs to Improve Oversight of Imported Seafood and Better Leverage Limited Resources, the GAO is particularly critical of the 'limited' FDA testing for unapproved drugs that may remain as residues in imported farmed fish.
