California implements slavery law

The US Department of Labor (DOL) has announced that the state of California has introduced the Supply Chain Transparency Act, in effect since 1 January 2012. The Act requires major retailers and manufacturers in California to document their efforts to eliminate forced labour and human trafficking from their chains of supply and distribution.

According to the DOL, sectors of the seafood industry employ child or forced labour in Bangladesh, Burma, Cambodia, Thailand, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Tanzania and Ghana.
