Awards and certification
Various awards and certification are available throughout the seafood industry in order to mark excellence and quality.
Certification is an important aspect of the seafood industry, and serves to meet a dual purpose; Awards initiatives reward those who excel in theirrespective fields, while certification provides consumers with a clear indication of where the best quality seafood produce can be found.
Awards offered within the seafood industry include:
- The Fish and Chip Quality Award which is administered by the National Federation of Fish Friers
- The National Fish and Chip Shop Awards
Examples of certification in the seafood industry include the Seafish-run Responsible Fishing Scheme which seeks to certify fishermen who operate to best practice and in a responsible manner, and the Marine Stewardship Council who have developed certified standards for sustainable fishing and seafood traceability.
