Stage two reports

June 8th 2013

The Project Inshore Stage Two report release follows on from the success of the Stage One baseline report of the English inshore sector published in December 2012. A key objective of Project Inshore is to further strengthen the sustainability on the English inshore fleet and this report helps in delivering that target. The Stage Two report uses the MSC pre-assessment standard for sustainable fishing to recognise trends in best practice in English inshore fisheries whilst also highlighting areas where improvements could be made. This consistent England-wide approach allows for commonalities in fisheries across England to be observed and will look to recommend changes at an appropriate scale. The pre-assessment work was undertaken after consulting with Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities (IFCAs), fishermen and other marine stakeholders as outlined in the project methodology.
