Seniors @ Marsh Mill, Thornton, Lancashire are the winners of the 2012 Independent Takeaway Fish & Chip Shop of the Year Award as part of the 2012 National Fish & Chip Awards.

Seniors @ Marsh Mill scooped first place in the flagship Independent Takeaway Fish & Chip Shop of the Year Award category at the 2012 National Fish & Chip Awards, organised by Seafish, the authority on seafood.

Owners Alastair and Dominic Horabin were presented with the coveted trophy by the acclaimed restauranteur and broadcaster Richard Corrigan, at a ceremony at the Riverbank Park Plaza Hotel in London on 17 January 2012.

Seniors @ Marsh Mill were crowned champions after a rigorous judging process which included taste tests, shop inspections and a presentation to a panel of industry experts.

Shops are judged not only on the quality of their fish and chips but on all areas of the business including responsible seafood sourcing, customer service, food hygiene, promotional activity, staff training and community engagement.

Hanbury's in Babbacombe, Devon was named the second best shop in the country with North East England regional winner, Quayside in Whitby coming in third place.
