Marine Management Organisation

Set up under the Marine Act, the MMO will be responsible for implementing the new marine plans and licensing marine activities.

The MMO will deliver Defra's fisheries management functions which include: managing the UK fleet capacity; implementing the EU marketing regime; managing UK fisheries quotas; biological sampling of fish and shellfish; managing fishing industry grants and UK state aids and managing, recording and providing data on fishing activity and catches.

The Marine Management Organisation was launched on 1 April 2010. A framework document on its responsiblilities was issued in March 2010.
