The Common Language Group
The Common Language Group (CLG) develops consensus positions on a range of important issues affecting the seafood supply chain.
These typically include topics such as discarding, beam trawling, IUU fishing and seafood 'scoring' schemes. The aim always is to establish a baseline understanding of the underpinning principles and then to build as high a level of agreement as possible, particularly as this relates to responsible sourcing of seafood.
The CLG has been closely involved in reviewing the Seafish Responsible Sourcing Guides after being a prime mover in initiating their production.
Membership of the group is fairly loose but it includes representation from the main fishermen's federations, processors (via the Food and Drink Federation), retailers (via the British Retail Consortium), environmental NGOs, Government Departments and regional development organisations, as well as Seafish.
The next CLG meeting will take place on Wednesday 11 July 2012 at Billingsgate market, London.
