Seafish responds to Welsh consultation on buffer zones
05 September 2011
Seafish has responded to the Welsh Government's consultation on the compulsory Good Agricultural Environmental Condition (GAEC) standard to introduce buffer zones alongside water courses to tackle water pollution from agriculture.
Seafish welcomes the introduction of measures that restrict the amount of nutrients being introduced into the soil near water courses. A reduction in the discharge of nutrients near water courses will improve the health and quality of the water courses by reducing eutrophication and by reducing the incidence of potentially toxic algal blooms.
