Seafish comments on Scotland’s draft National Marine Plan

10 June 2011

Seafish has responded to the Scottish Government's request for comments on its draft National Marine Plan.

Seafish welcomes several of the proposals in the draft plan, such as making sustainability a main aim and proposing to plan inshore and offshore areas together. However, Seafish upholds that the draft contains several issues of concern. These include a disjoint between Marine Strategy Framework Directive and the Common Fisheries Policy; shellfish farming in the context of water quality; the intention to use the terrestial model as a basis for marine planning; the absence of policy priorities; and the absence of temporal planning as a possible planning tool.
