NI fishermen welcome visa extension
05 September 2011
County Down fishermen have welcomed the 12-month extension to the temporary visas granted to immigrant fishermen, mainly from the Philippines, who are working on board local trawlers in Northern Ireland (NI).
The scheme, which was launched in January 2010, had originally been intended to last for 18 months, but the programme will be renewed from 1 September 2011 following representations from the fishing industry.
