Consultation on a new English Scallop Order

01 March 2011

Defra is inviting views on a proposed package of measures that are intended to safeguard scallop stocks better, improve the enforceability of existing scallop management measures, ensure there are scallops for the smaller local fleet to fish, and put English waters on a similar footing to devolved waters in respect of scallop dredging. Defra is hoping that this package will supplement and address issues with measures in the existing English Scallop Order 2004 (Statutory Instrument No. 12). The aim is to bring this into force by the October 3 2011 common commencement date.

This "non-formal" consultation has a deadline of 1 April 2001 and the consultation papers are available from http://ww2.defra.gov.uk/environment/marine/shellfish/scallops/.
