Alternatives to British MPAs

The Marine Protection Area Coalition (MPAC) recently presented an alternative approach to marine conservation zones to the one currently being pursued by the UK government. It did so in a meeting this January with Defra, MMO, IFCAs and the statutory nature conservation bodies. MPAC proposed that those affected must be at the centre of an authentic dialogue, so that conservation objectives are achieved without displacing fishing vessels from their normal fishing grounds.
