New fishing vessel certification
We provide a survey and certification service to make sure new fishing vessels meet the requirements in our Construction Standards.
New vessels under 24m registered length, which are to be registered as UK commercial fishing vessels, must be constructed and certified to the Seafish Construction Standards:
• Vessels less than 7m length overall need hull certification only.
• Vessels 7m to <15m length overall need hull and outfit certification.
• Vessels 15m LOA to 24m RL need hull and outfit certification in conjunction with MCA certification.
All fishing vessels need to meet the MCA safety check list requirements, and vessels of 15m length and over must meet the IMCO stability criteria.
To get Seafish certification, an application should be submitted to us before construction so that the vessel can be inspected during the build process. We will also need drawings and a specification for approval before work can begin.
We also offer services to help with the build and registration process:
• Stage certificates for stage payment schedule
• Official measurement of vessel
• Witnessing of Carving and Marking Note
• Safety equipment inspection (vessels less than 15m LOA)
Small commercial vessel certification

We are authorised by the MCA to certify small commercial vessels in line with the relevant codes of practice.
