EFSA recommends better control of viruses
26 July 2011
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published a Scientific Opinion on the occurrence and control of foodborne viruses. In the Opinion, EFSA makes a number of recommendations to improve the control of norovirus, hepatitis A and hepatitis E in bivalve molluscs. These include better environmental control, especially of faecal contamination, of shellfish production areas; the introduction of specific criteria for viruses in bivalve molluscs; and validation of post-harvest treatments for virucidal effectiveness.
