EFSA Opinion on norovirus in oysters
19 January 2012
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published a Scientific Opinion on norovirus in oysters. In the Opinion, it is reaffirmed that there is no threshold of infectivity to norovirus as measured by PCR. Nevertheless, EFSA recommends that acceptable limits be established for norovirus in oysters to be placed on the market. Competent authorities should concentrate on avoiding faecal contamination of mollusc production areas.
